The biggest challenge for a distributor is to manage the credit game in other words to make the two business viz. the manufacturer and the consumer to work in sync. A UPS distributor has to leverage the two to the best advantage.
The distributor has to aid the manufacturer to get its product to the market on one hand and on the other he should help the consumer obtain the products that they need to run the business. However while playing that role one big mistake a UPS distributor should avoid is the over extension of credit to the customers. This situation occurs when one or more customers demand extended payment terms on the other end.
This situation can be done away with by checking the payment terms to new customers and not letting the receivables become very old. Also there are customers who buy too much and owes too large of percentage of the receivables. This can be avoided by chalking out an appropriate credit limit and by reviewing the customer’s account on twice yearly basis. However the credit limit can be raised based on the payment history of the customer.
Another challenge that UPS battery distributor faces is minimizing the time between receipt of customer order and the supply of the UPS batteries from the manufacturer or the supplier’s end. The biggest challenge faced by any distributor is problem of getting product from the suppliers on time. It so happens that some items are popular and they are in huge demand from the customers as most of the customers want in bulk so the best thing UPS distributor can do with such items is to stock inventory of such items on one hand and on the other he can pressurize the suppliers to fulfill orders faster and on the other hand provide realistic time frames to the end users.
Also it is the foremost responsibility of the UPS distributor to take care of customers and this can be done by educating the staff about the important of good customer service and teach them how to handle the satisfied and complaining customers easily.
On a final note UPS distributor should keep tab on the economic changes, the spending habits of the people and other such trends that will have impact on their business like tastes of the end users and their buying shifts. Good research on these notes is vital for any distributor to succeed in business as any changes in these attributes can derail even the best laid business plans. Also he should put great effort on building robust relationships as good relations are the pillars for any business to survive in the cut throat competition.
